After loosing control on an icy road, I have in barked on the next project on my 88 dodge lancer. I ran it into a curb at about 20 mph going around a corner. Bent the rim beyond repair and damaged both the inner and outer tie rods and bent the control arm on the right side of the car. Now me in my wisdom(or lack there of) I decided to replace the entire rack and pinion including both tie rods on both sides. Didn't have to much trouble with the job. It was a little difficult to reconnect the steering shaft with what Auto zone calls a spring loaded coupler that I had already installed on the pinion shaft. With the job mostly finished and still waiting for a new pressure line, I have been reviewing the work that I have done, with instructions of the same job on line. And I came across this at Auto zone. Com ("The other uses a "D" shaped spring loaded slip fit coupler. The spring clip can fall out on the interior carpet of the car as the steering gear is lowered for removal. It must be reused") What is this spring clip and what does it look like. I did not see anything that even vaguely resembled anything like they are talking about,
I have looked around my work area and there isn't any thing there either, nor in the car. Can any body out there tell what this part is. Where I can get a new one or if I can do without it? I replace the unit with a remanufactured one and got all of my instructions from a Haynes manual, and they didn't mention anything about a spring clip either. Can you all help me with this I really don't want to redo the job but I will if necessary.
