Why would the truck be running rich?

How long since a tune-up? Any applicable trouble codes? Use a gage and check correct fuel pressure. Also, see if pressure will hold for a bit, with everything off. You may need to block supply and return lines. Check the vacuum line at the pressure regulator, where applicable, for signs of gas. Check the coolant temp sensor.

Just wanted to add, does the crankcase oil smell like gas?
