i pulled oil pan off and the oil screen had fallen off in the oil pan, could that be a reason for no oil at the heads. i thought the oil pump had gone bad but could this be the reason for bad ticking and no oil under valve covers

If the tube connected to the screen came out of the pump you'd have no oil pressure to any part of the engine, not just the heads. The pump would just suck up air.
