I'd use a gage and check fuel pressure, first. The fuel pump is in the gas tank. Also, engine cranking, check pump voltage and ground, at the fuel pump connector.

Fuel pump is intank and requires the tank to be lowered to get at it.
The only indication of a fuel pump failing would be abnormal noise level. Other than that there are no way to tell if the pump is failing.

My husband stated he thinks he can hear the fuel pumping trying to work but now can not even get it started now as he says he does not think it is getting any gas. He is stranded out in wyoming trying to work on this car. Any help would be great to relay over to him. Thank you
