1987 Mercedes Benz 560sl antenna problem

antenna only comes out halfway when car is started, goes all the way back when car is turned off
when I try to pull it out it will not budge. I lubricated the metal. but it nade no difference

Depending on the make of radio they can have a n antenna trim switch that will only allow the antenna to extend part way if the signal is strong, yours may have this option, does the antenna motor keep driving as if it wants to extend? If this is the case the antenna rope and mast drive may be faulty
