1987 ford escort pony, clicking sound when trying to start. Battery and terminals ok, selonoid good. What to check next?

Measure the voltages on the two large terminals on the solenoid. One must have full battery voltage all the rime. The other one should have battery voltage when the ignition switch is in the "crank" position. You can use a test light or a voltmeter for these tests.
