I have a 1987 ford escort 1.9 4 speed I press the clutch in and it red lines

Check the throttle cables to see if it is hanging up. With engine off. Lube the throttle controls and see if anything is hanging up causeing the throttle to stick. Also check and lube the cable that the gas pedal is connected to.
