I try to start my truck but it only cranks and doesn't start. The fuel injectors on the carb put out good fuel, but when I put starter fluid or some gasoline directly into the carb it will start and run until the fluid I put into the carb burns off, during this process when I press the gas pedal it kinda tries to rev up for a millisecond and then seams like it drowns out each time. (Tbi carb) I've put new spark plugs and plug wires and they each get spark a white clean spark, the fuel pump and fuel pump relay are good as well as the fuel filter. I've loosened the distributor and turned it to try and advance or recede the timing but neither does anything. (The gas in the truck is new high octane 93 with octane boost to try and help the spark ignite it)

You need to test your fuel pressure. It sounds like it may be low. It needs to be 9-13PSI and no less. They make an adapter to "T" into where the fuel filter goes. That's the only easy place to get a reading. Remember, you have to "T" in the system, not deadhead.

I have a question about that. Won't I have to have the truck idling in order to check the fuel pressure?

No, if you cycle the key on for 5 seconds and repeat a couple times it should be up to full pressure. It should actually come up the first time the key is turned on. The pump only runs for 2 seconds until you start cranking.
