1987 Chevrolet Camaro Idle tachometer reading

My Camaro z28 4 barrel 305 automatic seems to idle low and rough (5 on the Tach.) original owner and used only during summer months. What should Tach. read at idle? When I try to accelerate from a stop it sometimes stalls.

Recently had the distributor replaced and re-timmed. Last year I had the ICM module replaced. Was told 26 year old carb. needs to rebuilt, probably makes sense. 65,000 all original

Yes, the carb may need rebuilt. As far as the idle, check to see if there are any vacuum leaks. Also, the idle should be around 900 RPM's. That is adjustable on the carb.
