1987 blazer stalls when i come to a stop

it stalls when I apply breakes & takes a long time to shift gears

Check for vacuum leaks. Especially in the brake booster. Remove the bolts securing the master cylinder to the booster with the engine running. If you hear a hissing, the vacuum diaphragm on the booster is leaking.
