I have a 1986 Toyota SR5 pickup with the 22re engine. I just replaced the timing chain guides, but I need to clean the oil pan out which means taking it off. My repair manual said I had to disconnect the center link on the passenger side and the idler arm on the same side. Both of the connections are ball joints, and I can't get them off. First I used a pickling fork and I big hammer which didn't work. Then I went to NAPA and asked them and they sold me a puller which I just spent three hours with, but I can't get them to budge. I've also hit the bolts and rods with various sizes of hammers. Are there any tricks to get these off? In case I didn't explain it very well I circle the two ball joints that are giving me problems of the picture.

The fork is all we ever use. Some times we need to heat the joint a little to break but never more. It sounds like you have damaged the joints beyond repair at this point from all the hammering. Try heating up with a torch and using the fork again

I went to a different store and they sold me a different puller and that worked.
