1986 Jeep Cherokee Hydrollic Just Quit Working Sounded There Air Something

The hydrollic just quit working. It sounded like there was an air or something coming from the clutch pedal and then it drove fine until after we got off the freeway then it wouldn't go into gear unless you turned off the motor. Help please

Does it make a grinding noise when trying to engage in gear while engine is idling? If so have the clutch assembly further checked out-
