Its a 1986 chevy caprice classic with 305. I was removing my starter and didnt disconnect battery. It grounded out. I have not put the new starter in yet, but that wouldnt have anything to do with it. I have had the battery ckecked it was good. All the fuses under dash are good. What else could have I fried.

Fusible links at the starter. If you look close, they will be wires that are broken through. They are fused wires. They need to be replaced with the exact fusible link gauge.

I can see two red wires that has a black plastic casing. Could casing be the fuse links. But I have no power to anything: headlights, radio, window, horn. I mean its like I dont have a battery in the car. Would not having the starter in have anything to do with it or even would the fuse links being blown have anything to do with it. Is there a fuse link coming from the battery.

Put the starter in the car and hook up the positive cable. The other 2 wires that go with it are what powers up the car.

Yes, you can touch them together, just do not let them ground against anything.

Did this help your problem? I have a 1990 Caprice, my battery positive cable grounded out to my car. So, I changed my starter and alternator, and my battery light is still coming on in the car. I have the same as you no power to anything horn, lights can’t even pop my trunk to get my tools, so I’m lost on what to do next.

Good morning,

At the starter motor solenoid, there is a wire attached to the positive cable that contains a fusible link wire at the end where you bolt it. That is the main link for all the power to the car.

I attached a picture of the location for you to locate. You need the link from a parts store and connect it to the broken wire.
