1986 Buick Regal Regal Alternator Light Doesnt Completely Off Gets Slightly

1986 Buick Regal, the alternator light doesnt completely go off. It gets slightly dim but stays on. I got it checked and was told that it was OK. It was checked while still on the car. Does that make a difference how it was tested. And could it still be bad

it has a bad diode. it may be good now but will fail very shortly
