1985 1.9L VW van, starts/idles OK, sputters when accelerating through 2600 RPM then fine 3000 and above. Just replaced fuel pump, filter a little while ago. ?

maybe weak coil output. does van engine have LAMDA fuel injection?

Dont know, how do I check? Thought there was a carb on there, limited knowledge on car workings.

Pull coil wire hold 1/4 in. from block have assistent crank spark should crack and be blue/white. should be fuel injected. provind all info or numbers on engine

Another symptom--doesn't always go back to 900 rpm idle, sometimes stays at 2000, thinking gunk in jet carb or injectors? Will do coil check soon. thanks

Finally got around to the van with a little good weather--coil spark fine, did find vacuum leak, fixed,solved the sluggishness. Engine still accelerates/decelerated continuously when warm and at idle--any ideas?

Any idea on why the van RPMs fluctuate up and down continuously when engine warm and at idle? Thinking idle control ____?

Idle stop screw been moved? check resistence at air flow meter see diagram. Measure resistence from pin 6 to 9 should be 560 ohms next measure across pins 7-9 move aie flap does resistence go up and down?
