transmission will not shift for some miles , then when it does start shifting it downshifts alot on it's own

sounds like it is worn out internally. i would have a trans shop drive it and give you there opinion and get a bid for the repairs.

check to see if kickdown/shift control lever has fallen off. it uses a plastic bushing that wears away with time and then can pop off bracket arm. it's on side of throttle body linkage and goes down to trans lever. about 8-12" long
