What's the harm of removing the catalytic converter and muffler and just running straight pipes?

No damage should occur. Have you heard rumors?

Think exhaust is restricted and seems easier and less expensive to just do away with it.

"THEY" SAY IT'S ILLEGAL TO NOT RUN A CAT ON A RIG THAT ORIGINALLY CAME W/ ONE

ONE OF THEM "GREEN THINGS"

IF YOU AREN'T CHECKED IN YOUR AREA---THINK YOU MIGHT RUN ACROSS "THEM". IF YOU EVER DO, YOU'LL MOST LIKELY BE TOLD TO RE-INSTALL IT, OR FACE A FINE.

AS FAR AS THE MUFFLER---I MYSELF LIKE TO BE ABLE TO HEAR MY BUDDY, MR. RADIO, OR EVEN MY PASSENGERS

BUT EVEN MORE IMPORTANTLY, EACH TOWN/ CITY/ DISTRICT AROUND HERE HAS THEIR OWN ACCEPTABLE NOISE LEVELS---IT VARIES DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU ARE AT

NOT TOO LONG AGO AROUND HERE YOUR WERE SUBJECTED TO OVERWHELMING JUNGLE RACKET NO MATTER WHETHER YOU SAT IN TRAFFIC OR IN A PARKING LOT, YOU KNOW WHERE TRUNK LIDS AND MIRRORS VIBRATED AND THE OCCUPANTS INSIDE BLED FROM THEIR ORIFICES!

FINALLY SOMEONE TOOK INITIATIVE AND VERIFIED THEY HAD A PAIR

NOW IF YOUR RACKET CAN BE HEARD EXCESSIVELY AT MORE THAN 30 FEET AWAY---YOU PAY THE CITY OR COUNTY $1100----YES, YOU GOT A WARNING, IT WAS IN THE NEWSPAPER WHEN IT WAS, ENACTED

OTHER THAN AN OCCASIONAL OFFENDER---THAT CRAP STOPPED REALLY FAST---AND ALMOST INSTANTLY IT STOPPED

BUT TO SCIENTIFICALLY ANSWER YOU---THE ENGINE WILL RUN WITHOUT EXHAUST

I TRY TO MAKE THINGS INTERESTING AND "REAL WORLD"--NOT JUST GIVE A TEXTBOOK ANSWER

THE ONE BELOW HAS NO CAT, OR SEAT BELTS.100% LEGAL.1946 NOT OEM.I LIKE HEARING ABOUT A "LICENSE CHECK". JUST SO I CAN GO THRU IT (LIKE THE ONE LAST NIGHT, EVEN IF IT WAS COLD!), EVEN BETTER, IF YOU HAVE A IGNORANT PASSENGER WITH YOU!
