1985 S10 water into carb.

What would cause water and water vaport to be injected into the carb via the vapor hose from the valve cover in a 1985 Chevrolet S10 truck?

Engine only has 95k miles..but gets driven very little.

Engine is over heating (280 degress. It will run but stumbles and stalls obviously from the water gettng back into the carb..If vaporor hose is disconnected, the engine will run but not very well..

I suspects a blown head gasket or a leaking block to manifold gasket...The cat convertor gas never been replaced so that would be a suspect also.

The fan clutch does not seem to be working propertly either using the "hand spin test.' Ot spins very freely//

I intend to run a compression test on it to verify..

I have never seen water in the being injected into and engine as discriobe and need an opinion as to why that is happening..

part of your problem is from sitting and not runing very much. I would suspect that also its' not driven very far at all.like undr 10 miles everytime it'sdriven or just started in place and run for a few minutes. Vehicles need to be driven at aleast 20 miles to warm up suffieciently so you don't get water in the engine. It could be a head gasket as well though. As you didn't put what engine size it is most of them weren't known for headgasket leaks or intake leaks. if it' overheats, let it get warm/hot and shut the engine off and feel the radiator. if you feel cold spots then it's bad as it shold feel the same all over. also ifthere are any green coloredfins they are loose it's bad. the clutch fan can't be tested by "hand". it locks up due ot hot air flowing accross it. if you can get to it just after shutdown and it turns hard it's ok, if there is no shroud around it then it's useless as you need a shroud......

Engine is the std v6 engine that came with it.. The'hand spin" was done immediately after shut off..

Would the fact that the truck is not ran much cause water and water vapor to be injected into the carb?

85 V6, sorta gives it away? probably most likely its your intake gaskets! i just did 1 was slowly using anti freeze until it finally milked the oil on a real cold spell in winter. look at your plugs to see if any are too clean or sludged up with heavy deposits. this could indicate head gasket trouble also. the 1 i did had normal looking plugs.
