My passenger brake light bulb is dead and needs replacement. I don't see an obvious way of doing it. In my 300sd, there is an obvious back plate that comes off and exposes all of the light bulbs. In the case of my 300td, when I lift the hatchback, there is no back plate, just the interior leather panel. Am I supposed to remove this?

There should be 2 bolts sticking out through the leather panelling behind where the light is on the outside. Unscrew those bolts and the light comes off.
