I have done some research and found out my car dosn't have an oil pump it has a mechanical linkege what other parts are needed for this repair (no oil pressure) I.E. Gaskets sealent. And dose the head gasket need to be replaced. The mechanic I talked to said the head gasket would need to be replaced which makes no sence to me. Also what would you concider is a reasonable amount of labor hours to compleat this job the mechanic said 11-12 hours. It seams a seasoned mechanic could rebuild an entire engine in that amount of time. Thanks for your advice.

This oil pump is driven directly by the crank shaft, the front timing cover must come off, this can be done with the head on, but the chance of oil leaks is so much greater, as the lower front section of the head gasket can be damaged, this will not cause a blown head gasket only persistent oil leaks, the time of about 12 Hrs for doing this with the head off is very generous, a re build on this engine in labour hrs would be well over 20 to do it properly.
