SO
SOUNDS LIKE THE IGNITION SWITCH IS BAD!
IT IS LOCATED ON THE COLUMN, JUST ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE DASH
IT TAKES SOME PATIENCE TO UNDO IT AND REPLACE IT
YOU WILL BE ON YOUR KNEES BESIDE THE JEEP, SOMETIMES SOMETHING LIKE A COCA-COLA CRATE WITH PADDING ON TOP WILL AID YOU, GET YOU A LITTLE HIGHER AND MAKE THINGS MORE COMFORTABLE
THE KEY TUMBLER MOVES A ROD, THE ROD MOVES THE SWITCH POSITIONS
WHEN YOU BUY THE NEW ONE, YOU NEED TO KNOW WHETHER YOU HAVE TILT STEERING OR NOT - THE IGNITION SWITCHES ARE DIFFERENT!
THE 1ST 3 PICS I SHOW YOU ARE JUST SO YOU UNDERSTAND HOW THIS WORKS, THE 1ST 3 PICS ARE OF A 1988 FORD F-100, IT'S STEERING COLUMN CAN BE LOWERED TO ACCESS IT.
YOU CANNOT DO THIS ON YOUR JEEP, IT'S GONNA BE CONTORT YOURSELF, HAVE TIRED HANDS AND FINGERS! LIKE I SAID, FIRST 3 ARE SO YOU CAN SEE WHAT YOU ARE UP AGAINST, YOU ARE GONNA BE DOING THIS MAINLY BY FEEL! A GLANCE IN A MIRROR MIGHT AID YOU TOO!
1) FORD TRUCK IGN SWITCH, NOTE THE ROD FROM THE KEY IN THE NOTCH
2) FORD TRUCK IGN SWITCH IS UNSCREWED FROM THE COLUMN. NOTE THE HOOK IN THE ROD GOES INTO THE HOLE ON THE BOTTOM SIDE OF THE IGN SWITCH
3) FORD TRUCK IGN SWITCH IS REMOVED, TAKE OFF THE WIRE CONNECTORS, READY TO REPLACE
X) REMEMBER A CJ AND THE FORD ARE SIMILAR, 'CEPT YOU CAN'T LOWER THE CJ COLUMN
4) JEEP CJ IGN SWITCH VIEWED FROM DRIVER'S SIDE SORTA LOOKING UP AT THE COLUMN BEHIND THE DASH, THE REST OF IT IS SORTA OVER THE TOP OF THE COLUMN
5) JEEP CJ- IT TAKES A 5/16 WRENCH TO REMOVE THE 2 SCREWS,
BEFORE YOU TAKE IT LOOSE, NOTE WHERE THE SCREWS ARE IN THE ELONGATED (ADJUSTMENT) SLOTS. YOU STILL MAY POSSIBLY NEED TO LOOSEN THE SCREWS AND MAKE MINOR SLIDING ADJUSTMENTS SO THAT THE "KEY POSITIONS" ARE SYNCHRONIZED WITH THE IGN SWITCH POSITIONS
6) JEEP CJ - SWITCH IS OFF OF COLUMN, THE ACTUATING ROD REMAINS ON TOP OF THE COLUMN
