how to replace dash lights

I have removed the insturment panel, but I don't know how to remove the speedometer cable to acess the light bulbs,and, how can I safely re-align it for re-installation?

The speedo fitting is threaded. It unscrews-counterclockwise.
The bulbs are removed by turning the pigtail 1/4 turn counterclockwise.
The speedo cable is self-aligning.

Im familiar with the type of threaded speedo cap you mentioned.However the one that's connecting my cable is a plastic unit that seems to have some method of release. But I can only see part of it.If I knew how it worked I may be able to diconnect it by feel.

Oh. Ok. It snaps in and two clips on either side of the cable end housing clip over a lip on the back of the speedo. To release it, you need to firmly squeeze the cable end 90 degrees out from the latch clips.
