Setting the timing
4.1 straight six
How do I find top dead center on number 1?
each time I get compression stroke to the top of number 1
And the distributor set to fire on number 1. My timing light is fire at about 9 o'clock on the harmonic balance.

the balancer may be bad. the rubber slips between the metals. commom issue on those motors. go with your way of setting tdc.
