THIS ENGINE WILL RUN PERFECTLY WITHOUT MOST OF THE STUFF THAT CAME ON IT.......MINE ONLY HAS 3 VACUUM LINES, ONE OF 'EM ONLY RUNS THE VACUUM GAUGE ON THE DASH (IT'S NOT REALLY NEEDED)----IF I HAD POWER BRAKES, I'D REQUIRE ONE MORE
IT'S EZ TO MAINTAIN JUST A FEW "MUST HAVE LINES" THAN TO MAINTAIN A BUNCH THAT THE APPARATUS' ALONG THE WAY, DON'T WORK ANY MORE/ CAN'T BE TESTED/ CAN'T BE FOUND ANYWHERE...................VACUUM LEAKING IS MINIMIZED, NOW EZ TO FIND, SHOULD ONE OCCUR
OUTSIDE----REMOVE THE BREATHER---LAY THE HOOD ON THE WINDSHIELD FRAME GET ME PICS OF THE LEFT AND RIGHT SIDES OF THE ENGINE----STAND ON THE BUMPER AND GET ME A GOOD TOP VIEW (CAMERA HELD CENTER OF ENGINE)
I KINDA WANNA KNOW WHAT STATE YOU LIVE IN, AS FAR AS TEMPERATURE GOES
WE CANNOT "TUNE" UNTIL WE KNOW THE VACUUM IS NOT AN ISSUE

I'VE GOT A "HUNCH" AS TO WHAT MIGHT BE WRONG
I'VE ALWAYS EXPERIENCED "FLASHING HEADLIGHTS"---YOUR ISSUE MAY BE THE SAME, BUT JST THE OTHER CONNECTOR. THIS COULD BE SYMPTOMS OF THE DIMMER SWITCH HAVING PROBLEMS
IT'S REALLY BAD IF THEY GO OUT, AT NIGHT, MILES FROM HOME, AND YOU ARE IGNORANT TO WHAT'S HAPPENED...SO YOU DRIVE REALLY SLOW, TO LIMP IT HOME.....THE HIGHWAY PATROLMAN, PULLS YOU OVER AS YOU PASS A CONVENIENCE STORE. HE JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND THE SEVERITY OF "YOUR PARTICULAR DILEMMA"....AND YOU GET A WARNING, "NO DRIVEY WITHOUT LIGHTS IN THE FRONT"....THEN THE SAME FELLER GIVES YOU TICKET FOR THE 2 FLASHLIGHTS TAPED TO THE BUMPER, ABOUT AN HOUR LATER! (DON'T EVEN ASK!)
SINCE THIS INCIDENT, I HAVE SEEN IT MANY MORE TIMES. NORMALLY BOTH THE PIGTAIL AND THE DIMMER ARE RUINED FROM THE HEAT, WASTING YOUR TIME TRYING TO SALVAGE EITHER---USE DIELECTRIC GREASE ON THE NEW CONNECTORS! ABOUT $7 FOR A TUBE AT THE AUTO STORE

'MEMBER, THIS IS A JEEP--MOISTURE IS A "GIVEN"----USE THIS ON ANY CONNECTOR YOU PULL APART---AND ON THE FUSES---THAT WHITISH ALUMINUM FILM ON THE METAL IS MILD CORROSION....IT IS NOT YOUR FRIEND!
IN THE PICS, THIS IS A NEW PIGTAIL (CAN BE FOUND AT MOST AUTO STORES--MOST ALL OF THE OLD FORDS, WITH FLOOR DIMMERS USED THE SAME ONE), THE BRASS FEMALE CONNECTORS ARE ALL THE WAY FORWARD....LIKE THEY SHOULD BE, THEY ARE SORTA LOCKED IN PLACE BY THE PLASTIC
WHAT USUALLY HAPPENS IS THE CONTACTS INSIDE THE CONNECTOR GET LOOSE OR CORRODED--THEN THEY GET HOT--THE PLASTIC GETS SOFT AND DISTORTED----THEN YOU LOSE THAT PARTICULAR CONNECTION (OF THE 3).........LIGHTS MAY FLASH OFF AND ON----MAYBE JUST THE DIMS---MAYBE JUST THE BRIGHTS----MAYBE YOU LOOSE POWER TO BOTH
NOW YOU SORTA FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM...MAYBE?......YOU TAKE THE CONNECTOR LOOSE.....(YOU SEE NOTHING WITHE THE "INEXPERIENCED EYE") SO.....WHAT DO WE DO?.........SHOVE THE CONNECTOR BACK ON!..............WHAT HAPPENS NEXT IS THE "HOT CONNECTOR" (NO LONGER HELD BY THE DISTORTED PLASTIC.........THE "FEMALE" CONECTOR GETS SHOVED REARWARD AND REALLY DOES NOT CONNECT ANY MORE , THEY "MAY" JUST "TOUCH"...THIS IS WHERE THE HEAT STARTS GENERATING AND "FLASHING HEADLIGHTS"....THEN "MAJOR MELTAGE" OCCURS---THEN IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO CONNECT
YOU THINK YOU HAVE IT SHOVED TOGETHER, REALLY YOU ARE SHOVING THE OTHER CONNECTORS REARWARD TOO, THE MELTED PLASTIC CAN NO LONGER HOLD THEM IN PLACE!
IN MY PIC---THE MIDDLE WIRE/ CONNECTOR IS THE 12 VOLT FEED FROM THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH---THE OUTER ONES ARE "HIGH" AND "LOW" FOR THE HEADLIGHTS (I'D HAVE TO LOOK TO SEE WHICH SIDE IS WHICH---BUT IT REALLY DON'T MATTER--THE SWITCH DON'T CARE!)
