83 350 caprice replaced altinator,battery ran 30 miles lights dimmed to going out .belt tight whats causeing it not to charge normally, all connections are clean

Does the battery light turn on when you turn on the ignition switch? If not, measure the voltages on the two smaller wires at the generator's plug. Are you aware of the "D" hole on the back of the generator, and its purpose?
