1982 Toyota Corolla Does 5 Speed Standard Transmission Whine Pop Out First Gear

Why does my 5 speed standard transmission whine and pop out of first gear? I can hold it or force it to stay in first but it still whines loudly.

worn out syncro and bearing inside the trans. it would have to be replaced.
