Okay im having problems with my truck backfiring through the carb. I know that ignition timing can cause this so I adjusted the timing as close as I could get to the engines preffered timing because it does have a full race cam the truck was running well it then backfired through the carb this time catching the carb on fire. Im not sure if it is the vacuum advance or what it has had a complete tune up. The engine is a 350 chevy I have been told that it is in the carb

Lean mixture, mis adjusted valves, timing are some of the many reasons for this.
It could be the accelerator pump not working in the carb causing the lean condition.
