The fuel gauge

I noticed the fuel gauge in the XD falcon fail to work with the red light on, could it just be the sending unit?

Check and test the fuel sending unit-start there then work your way to the gauge

Earth the sender unit power wire out,just long enough to see if the gauge goes full deflection, if so it will be the actual sender that is faulty, this is normally the case with these cars.
