I finally replaced my gear-box on my '77 CJ 5----That was 6 years ago.
I replaced it with a OMIX-ADA, Yes, I did install gear oil during installation
Pretty much 1st owner had run stock wheels till I acquired him in 1991, then I increased to 235-75-15
About a year ago, I was asking the same question, "WHY DID MY BOX LAST ONLY 5 YEARS THIS TIME?" Actually it needed DOING long before that, I had sorta grown accustomed to where to "HOLD-OFF" on the steering. But, By now it was almost DANGEROUS. Especially if someone else drove it!
I talked to many places, mostly the same answer: AN ORIGINAL TYPE "SAGINAW" is the only stock type that is made from decent materials. Again added the oil till full
I sorta have before and after installation on my Walmart Album Sharing. Along with other mods I have done. Send your E-mail to my messages, I will send it to you. If I ever RE-FIGURE OUT THE SITE!
