1980 Ford Pinto Shift Linkage Extremely Loose On 4 Speed Manuel Put 1st Gear

My shift linkage is extremely loose on the 4 speed manuel, When I go to put it in 1st gear your as likely to have it in reverse. What can I do to tighten it up?

check the linkage I believe there are nylon bushings that go bad and can be replaced. It has been a long time since I have seen one.
