Took to repair shop they said it was the rear main seal. They replaced it next day got it back drove 14 miles lost 3 qt put 3qt back drove back to shop they were stunned, Left it with them another day they said they must have nicked it or it came from the factory that way so they replaced it. Day two call me up and said bad news that the rear main barring was worn and they had to replace it to. Do you think they should have know this the first time? The Mechanic said the first time they had to pull the transmission to do the job. I fell some think is wrong. Please your opinion. Thank You Scott. P.S. They charged 690.00 then 390.00 total : 1080 :(

The rear seal on thos they shold have seen the main bearing problem as it's a two piece design and the rear main cap has to be removed including the bearing to replace the seal unless this is not the correct engine for this and it is a one piece seal then they would n't see the bearing. But normally with a leak that severe it is normally not the main seal unless it is almost completely gone. More than like likely it's an oil pressure sender as they can leak scads of oil in a short time period. But I'd have to say it's imporper install on the seal an dyou shold not have been charged again if it were not fixed the first time. Maybe for the bearing but that would be about all. But that is my opinion and where you go with them is hard to say

. AND MR. BEARING'S "TOP HALF" COULDA BEEN INSTALLED BY DROPPING THE CRANK, EVER SO SLIGHTLY, BY LOOSENING THE OTHER MAIN BEARING CAPS

. YES, THIS IS A 2 PIECE SEAL

I CANNOT SEE THAT MUCH OIL LOSS. OTHER THAN THE WRENCH'S OPERATOR ERROR. THE DARN CRANK WOULDA BEEN-A-FLOPPIN' FOR THAT TO HAPPEN

MAYBE THEY DROVE THE TOP HALF IN BACKWARDS?

YOU CAN SEE IN THIS PIC THAT THE REAR MAIN IS NOT THE "THRUST BEARING"DROPPING THE CRANK "A WEE BIT" WOULDA GAINED ENOUGH CLEARANCE TO INSTALL THE BEARING

IF THEY WERE NOT SEASONED FOLKS W/ A CJ

.I'D WORRY ABOUT THE CONDITION OF THE OTHER BEARINGS

. IF THEY TOOK THE TRANSFER CASE OFF OF THE TRANNY (WITHOUT SAFEGUARDS).I'D WORRY ABOUT PICS 2-4

HECK. WHILE YOU ARE IN THERE, INSTALL ANOTHER OIL PUMP----THIS TIME A "HIGH VOLUME ONE".$100-$150 FOR THE PUMP. MR. ENGINE MIGHT LAST A LOT LONGER!

KEEP US INFORMED
