1979 Ford F-150 mechanical fuel pump

I have a 351 windsor that is a 1979. The fuel pump wont pump when motor is turning over but the pump is good

If the pump is good then the arm for the pump isn't in the motor right and the cam isn't moving the arm up and down like it should. We haveno pics of this

When sliding it in I point the arm down as much as possible is that incorrect?

No that iscorrect but if there is an oblongated piece bolted to the end of the cam and if it's at the bottom of the cam it's hard to get the pump in the correct place. Turn the engine over a bit then try reinstalling it.
