1979 Ford Courier going through gas like crazy

I just replaced the fuel pump on my 79 courier. Before this I was getting about 30 miles to the gallon. Now im getting like 5 miles to the gallon. And I can smell gas all the time. Especially when I shut it off. We doubled checked and it is the right fuel pump. So was thinking mayb the fuel regulator. But it doesn't appear to have one. What else could it be

With that kind of gas mileage drop you most likely have a fuel leak (broken hose, loose connection, etc), unless you have clouds of black smoke coming from the tailpipe).

With the engine running check all of your fuel lines to see if you can spot it (especially check the area(s) that were "handled" during the repairs).

COULD BE THE FLOAT LEVEL

IF YOU MONKEYED AROUND WITH THE FUEL LINE WHERE IT ENTERS THE CARB. YOU MAY HAVE DAMAGED THE NEEDLE AND SEAT. OR MOVED THE FLOAT SETTING
