Weather has nothing to do with old engines but the carburettion and ignition system do.
When engine stalls and fails to restart, you need to check if it is fuel starvation or ignition sparks that is causing the problem. Ensure sparks are bright blue.
Your model is not listed in our database so I am not able to get the wiring circuit for.
The switch could be the cause if the fuses are good. One way of checking the wire colors is to look at the wire color at the taillight bulbs.
That would give you an idea what wire to check at the switch.
