Yes it can, but car must be taken to support the transmission so no damage is done to the rear mount and make sure that the torque converter does not slide out.

Thanks Mark, thought it might be easier as I'm in Barbados without hoists and stuff. Will have to be careful not to damage the seals etc, may need two come-a-longs. Will let you know how things progress, you may be able to hear the screams from here.

Good luck, just tag all wires and use small containers to keep all bolts separate, mark the boxes for each component and I should not hear any screams here in Aust. Lol
