I have a 1978 Chevy Van and there are 2 vacuum hoses coming out of a black canister under the center of the hood. The longer one connects under the carb and the other is just hanging. Where does the shorter vacuum hose go? I know it goes to the brake system because I have no brakes right now. I just have not been able to find a port to reconnect the hose.

I can't find a vacuum diagram for a van that old on the 10 mosel. The brake booster well have to get a manifold vacuum source meaning any the nipple below the carb throttle plates. It will be the largest of the nipples also with a check valve on the brake booster itself plugged into the booster with the hose attached to the nipple of the check valve.

If the canister is hooked to manifold vacuum then hook the loose line to the brake booster check valve on the booster.

I don't see any wires going to it or a cable or linkage from it also the carb is way away from it. But he could tell us if there is any of that better then the pic.

Is there vacuum present on the line?

If so, maybe it's sorta useless now (does nothing)

Stick a small bolt in it (plug it off), see if vacuum improves on your rig!

If it's live, it's just a vacuum leak right now!
