I replaced the carb put a new gasket under the plastic mounting plate (thinner one ) and a new gasket in between the plastic plate and the carb ( thick one) tightened it tight and still getting a vacuume leak in that area ( sprayed staring fluid to the out side and the engine pitched and it ran smooth for a few seconds. How do I seal it up?

check to see if the plastic plate is flat and not concaved or convexed.

INSURE THE PLASTIC PLATE IS NOT CRACKED.......SORTA GENTLY BEND IT.....IT MAY ONLY OPEN UP UNDER PRESSURE

INSURE YOUR CARB IS NOT THE LEAK----ARE ALL OF THE SCREWS ON IT NICE AND SNUG?

DO YOU HAVE ALL OF THE UNUSED VACUUM PORTS CAPPED OFF?

DO NOT "CRANK DOWN" ON THE BOLTS---CROSS TIGHTEN THEM A LITTLE AT A TIME---NOT ONE SIDE THEN THE OTHER

I ALSO USE "INDIAN HEAD" GASKET SHELLAC (OR OTHER BRANDS) ON THE INTAKE....BOTH SIDES OF THE PLASTIC SPACER..........I DO NOT USE IT ON THE CARB SIDE OF THE GASKET..........WIPE THE DABBER OFF WELL, YOU ONLY NEED A THIN COAT------UNLIKE THE WAY I'M GOBBING IT ON MY TRANNY SNOUT IN THE PIC----OR MY TIMING CHAIN COVER

I HAVE A '77 AND A '46

YOUR TURN
