ARE YOU EQUIPPED TO DO THIS?

YOU ARE GONNA NEED A DECENT FLOOR TO WORK ON AND A "DECENT" SOCKET SET AND WRENCHES----TO INCLUDE A TORQUE WRENCH

HAVE YOU DONE ANY MAJOR WORK ON A VEHICLE BEFORE, EVEN CLOSE TO THIS UNDERTAKING?

MOST OF THE PROCESS IS JUST TAKING STUFF OFF AND LOOSE. KEEPING UP WITH WHERE STUFF GOES BACK (I USE A CARDBOARD BOX, PUNCHING HOLES FOR THE BOLTS, USING NAILS TO HOLD NUTS AND WASHERS ONTO THE BOX, LABELLING EACH NUT AND BOLT, SOMETIMES USING "CLOCK POSITIONS"

IF YOU HAVE A MANUAL TRANNY (LIKE MINE) SPECIAL ATTENTION AND "SPECIAL PROCEDURES" MUST BE USED WHEN YOU REMOVE THE TRANSFER CASE FROM THE TRANNY. NO ONE EVER CLUED ME IN ON THIS WAY BACK YONDER. EVEN THE MANUAL DID NOT MENTION THIS!

I HAD TO LEARN IT THE HARD WAY!

WHAT HAPPENS IS THE BEARING ADAPTER (USUALLY DOES) SLIPS REARWARD. INSIDE THE TRANNY AND UNKNOWN TO YOUALL OF THE NEEDLE BEARINGS BETWEEN THE INPUT SHAFT AND THE MAIN-SHAFT JUST FELL OUT!

NOW THE TRANNY HAS TO COME ALL THE WAY APART TO PUT THEM BACK IN!

IF THE ADAPTER MOVES ABOUT A 1/2 INCH OUTWARD. THEY FALL OUT. YOU NOW BE IN A FIX. IT WILL SHOVE BACK IN. BUT NOW THE NEEDLES ARE IN THE BOTTOM OF THE CASE!

THIS CAN BE PREVENTED---BUT YOU GOTTA KNOW THE DEAL

DO YOU THINK YOU WANNA TACKLE THIS?

I'D RATHER TALK YOU THRU IT, AS YOU GO. GOT THE TIME FOR THAT. CAN YOU SEND PICS AS WE GO. THIS KINDA "BACK AND FORTH" INPUT WOULD PROBABLY KEEP YOU STRAIGHT AND ON TRACK. YES, I HAVE THE TIME

AS OTHERS HAVE ALREADY WRITTEN THE BOOKI DON'T WANNA WRITE A BOOK, THEN YOU SAY "NAAAA, I'LL JUST PAY SOMEBODY"

RECENTLY I TOTALLY REBUILT MY TRANNY REPLACING EVERY PART INSIDE, AND WENT THRU MY TRANSFER CASE. THIS WAS ON MY '77 CJ 5 W/ 258

ON MY 1946 WILLYS---AFTER 20 YEARS, MY THROW-OUT BEARING SHELLED OUT, WHILE I WAS IN THERE I REPLACED THE CLUTCH AND RESURFACED THE FLYWHEEL

I HAVE PRETTY GOOD PICS. AFTER I DID THE TRANNY AND TRANSFER CASE ON THE '77 ("MR. JEEP") I HAD AN UNKNOWN PROBLEM WITH 2ND TO 3RD SHIFTING

I REMOVED THE TRANNY AND TRANSFER CASE "SEVEN" (7) TIMES, BEFORE I FIGURED OUT THE "BRAND NEW" SYNCHRONIZER WAS MACHINE WRONG!

ALL IS GOOD NOW. BUT I CAN REMOVE THEM BLIND FOLDED NOW!

I'M GONNA SEND A FEW OF MY PICS OF BOTH JEEPS ("MR. JEEP AND "WILLY"). WILLY GOT THE CLUTCH. THINGS DIDN'T CHANGE A LOT BETWEEN 1946 AND 1977!

HOW HAVE YOU FIGURED OUT YOUR PROBLEM IS THE CLUTCH?

WHAT ENGINE/ TRANNY/ TRANSFER CASE DO YOU HAVE?

MANY OF MY CJ ANSWERS HAVE GONE BACK AND FORTH WITH OVER 100 RESPONSES TO THE OTHER GUY.I MIGHT CAN ALSO SHOW YOU HOW TO SAVE SOME SERIOUS $$$ WHEN YOU BUY YOUR PARTS. LIKE $40 OFF OF $110 WORTH AT REGULAR PRICE. SOUND PLAUSIBLE?
