We have a 1975 Jeep that idles perfectly and when it is in neutral the engine will rev up but when we put it into gear it will spit, sputter and then die. We have changed the fuel, checked the fuel pump, and lines, cleaned the filter. The Carb has been cleaned and adjusted (right on the money for the idle) and the fuel jets have been cleaned. What else can be done?

If this has pointsit may be the points are grounding out when teh distributor advances. It can also be spark plugs and/or plug wires. If this has been idling for a long period and notdriven alot of times this can be like this. Also if it's a mechanical pump check for pressure and flow.

Plugs and plug wires were replaced, no points, pump pressure and flow are correct.

Chekc for a vacuum leak and also check the distributor advance for working or rusted up. A mechanical pupm should have at least 3.5 lbs pressure. Also check the choke for proper adjustment as well as the float level in the carb.

I'm going with the vacuum leak or float!

When searching for the vac leak, insure the carb body screws, and the fasteners to the intake have not worked loose.
