Will engine idle? Have check the fuel shut off solenoid on Carb?

A common problem with the air cooled beetles is the carb linkage wears and causes it to stall, you will feel a little play where the rod goes into the carb.
I had a 73 that did the same thing and had a brass sleeve put in and it was fine after that.
