I broke the key in the switch so my dad and his mechanic friend took it apart to put a new one in, it got dark so they stopped and then have it looked at it since then. That was half a year ago, and I've have had a bunch of people look at it but no one knows what to do. My dad is being stubborn and simply refuses to believe he did anything wrong and that everyone else has messed with it so that he can't fix it now. I really don't care anymore and just want to fix it myself. I just want to fix it.

There are a lot of parts that are involved with this. I no longer have access to manuals for a 73. You really need to get a repair manual for this. Check parts stores for one or a book store.
