1970 Chevrolet El Camino Intermittent spark

The vehicle will only spark once as soon as the key is turned. While cranking it will not spark. As soon as you let the key snap back it will spark. The coil was replaced and the problem still exsists.

Yes, it has power when the ignition is in the on position. Iam cheching the spark at the coil.

Hook the alligator clip from the test light to the positive side of the battery. Then touch the negative side of the coil with the tip of the test light. Then crank the engine see if the test light flashes?

I will try that. It has power going in but not steady spark. It will flash only one time.

The positive side of the coil has power to it?Let me know if the test light flashes while cranking?

Yes the positive side has power when the key is on.

Now check the negative side of the coil the way I told you too.
