Silly question I know, however when I changed the coil on the original 400, I did not pay attention to the positive and negative connections. Does the positive or negative go to the distributor cap? Thanks for any help

Not to the cap. The positive coil terminal gets 12 volts through a ballast resistor or resistor wire from the ignition switch. The negative coil wire goes to ground through the breaker points in the distributor.
