gas is free flowing from the tank into the pump

The truck has a 390 in it and gas is free flowing from the tank into the pump and free flowing out the carb side but its like the cam wont hit the pump and i put the pump in under pressure to ensure it waz under the cam thing do you think the part that is on the cam could be worn out

If manually activating the pump works, yes, you are correct about the cam being worn etc. Remove the pump and get someone to crank the engine while you look or feel if the cam is moving.
