Hi when I start my 1969 Fiat 124 spider it cuts off. I get it started and as soon as I take my foot off the gas pedal it dies. I have rebuilt the carburetor. I am wondering if it could be the fuel pump or fuel filter. As long as I have my foot on the gas pedal it will stay started. Also when I hit the gas pedal the RPM does not raise. I can have it to the floor and it wont raise over 800rpm. If I take it off real quick on the second attempt it will start to raise. But it does not go over 3500RPM. It is a Manuel transmission. I know the fuel pump is original in this car I would assume the filter has been changed before. Someone owned it before we got it so I am not sure. Any suggestions or advice. Thanks.

if you overhauled the carb it may have not been done correctly and maybe your pins to the linkage have fallen off. recheck your work then test volume to carb should be 1/2 pint in 30 seconds. replacing the fuel filter is a good idea as well. also check to see if the dist is advancing the timing when you rev it as well as check your point gap or dwell .
