Went to the chicago auto show a while ago. Stopped at the Chrysler booth. Talked to a rather important looking guy. I said I wanted a car that had room for 6 people, a hidden trunk big enough for a large bicycle, simple enough to fix with an old pair of rusty pliers, and 17-18 mpg. He looked perplexed. Then I said, 'You know, I had a car like that once, a '69 dodge dart 6 cylinder. He looked so surprised. Once on the highway, my speed dropped off. So I pulled off, the fuel filter was held on by two spring clips. I took it off, blew through it in the reverse direction to clear it, and put it back on. Off I went, no problem. In the paper today, I saw an ad for a new minivan, they brag about 17 mpg, and a price of over $30k. I'm not impressed. Did you know the fuel injection system, for the pump and computer, uses about 25 amps. It takes about 1 horsepower off the engine to power all that stuff.
But no one seems to care. My dart didn't have power steering, didn't need it. Rear engine rear wheel drive cars never need power steering. Also, rear engine rear wheel drive cars do great when accelerating on slippery roads, much less wheel spin. Also, RWD does much better on slippery roads because when the steering wheels are also powered they slip more. Also, I loved the Corvairs made from '65 to '67 or whenever they stopped making them. And I think Ralph Nader is an *******. The Tucker was over-rated because of its heavy water jacket. It should have been air cooled. JIMHO :>)
