1968 Ford Mustang Believe This Crate Engine First Heard Slight Backfire

I believe this is a crate engine. First I heard slight backfire, then something like tappet noise. What should I do to find problem. oil pressure is good.

check tappets for adjust ment first then start car up andsee if all teh atppets go up an ddown the same, it could be lifter collapsing or something more.
