1965 Volkswagen Beetle Vw Beetle Right Side Engine Getting Hot Power On

1965 vw beetle. Right side of engine not getting hot. No power on acceleration with backfire. What would cause this?

check for an ignition system problem on that side of the engine such as fouled spark plugs, burned spark plug wires etc.

Also check that the carburetor is supplying fuel to that side of the engine. (adjust carb jets which feed fuel to that side of the engine).
Is your carb. a one barrel or a two barrel?

Does the engine idle smoothly?

Valve adjustment.... valves are too tight!
