Need exploded parts diagram for reservoir. New filter does not seat with spring, etc. Must be more parts to retain the filter against the top, like a washer or retainer of some sort. Need to know the parts inside the reservoir and how they stack together with filter.

We don't have anything that old that shows that if you can find a truck or any model during til about 66 if I remember should be the same. There used to be a gasket on top along with a wing nut and washer to hole it in place. But I think it is only the filter with the spring on top is the way it's supposed to go on. You are really testing my memory on that one lol.

You have described accurately the reservoir, the lid, its wing nut, washer and gasket, all of which I have. I therefore know you are on the right track. Can you can answer this: Is the filter supposed to be pushed by the spring up against the "lid" of the reservoir? Or is the spring supposed to push the filter down into the bottom of the reservoir where there is some sort of inside cup the filter might fit into? As now, the spring seems to have no function to do either as it sits inside the filter with no constriction up or down. Seems wrong to me, as if that spring should have some function. I am happy to spend the $5 to find a clueful person such as yourself. Thank you.

Cj found a diagram but from what I always remember the spring went on top. There may be something that goes inside the filter to hold the spring but that is so damn long ago I forget. If the spring goes through the filter then what I would do is go to hardware andsee if you can find a body washer that is large enough to partially block the center so the spring won't go through it. If I remember it's an eaton pump and parts are still available at rock auto but I couldn't find anything for the center other than pump and filter.

That diagram pretty much nails it. I can see I am missing some parts which Larry's Thunderbird in Corona, CA, my source, does not have. So will have to fabricate I think. Interesting it does not show the filter nor the spring so it is not obvious how all that fits together.

Thanks a million.

Id' check around on the net first of see if one of the local junkyards has this as they used it in mustangs, galaxies and a lot of ford products until about 67 I think. You can also check for other sources online as that happens a lot. The oldest ford book I have is like 76 so it is no help as they changed pumps.

Thank you very much. I am very impressed with this site; best $5 I have spent in a long time. I am near San Jose, and there is a Pick and Pull place on east side of town. Not on Internet; however, would be a fun jaunt to go there and see what they have for '64 TBirds. What I really need are authentic '64 wheelcovers. They seem to be unobtanium. Again, many thinks to the 2 car pros. Older men rule, you know!

IF YOU GRAB A NEW TAB AND TYPE IN "1964 ford thunderbird hubcaps"----THEN SELECT "IMAGES" AT THE TOP. YOU WILL GET LOST FOREVER!

MY PAP BOUGHT A BRAND NEW '86 T-BIRD (1ST NEW CAR THEY EVER HAD). HE WENT TO SEE THE GREAT SQUADRON COMMANDER IN THE SKY A COUPLE OF YEARS BACK. ALTHOUGH IT WAS ONLY FADED A LITTLE, MAMA HAD IT REPAINTED IN JANUARY. LOOKS BRAND NEW AGAIN

PAP ALWAYS SAID YOU CAN HAVE NICE THINGS. OR YOU CAN HAVE KIDS. BUT NOT BOTH!

WHEN HE HAD TO GO FOR SOME NERVE TESTS (HE HAD 3 AGENT ORANGE RELATED CANCERS).I TOLD MY MAMA TO SAVE SOME TIME AND GRIEF. HAVE THE DOCTOR CHECK HIS "LAST NERVE" FIRST. THAT WAS THE ONE HE ALWAYS SAID MY SISTERS AND I WERE "ON" A LOT OF THE TIME

GOOD LUCK WITH YOURS.I'LL STICK WITH MY JEEPS!

. AND THERE'S ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG WITH RETURNING TO THIS POST ANYTIME WITH UPDATES AND PICS. WE LIKE TO SEE WHAT ARRIVED IN THE GARAGE!
