I have a 1963 Ford P/U with a 352 the original carb would only run with choke partialy open, fully open it would die. So I purchased a used carb, a Holley 2 Bbl, and after installing it am having the same problem as the old one. Could the problem be caused by vacuum leaks, or maybe the fuel pump or the fuel pump filter that screws on the bottom of the pump? Or would I have to rebuild the carb?

IF it is doing the same thing, chances are it isn't the carb. I would recommend checking things like the carb, make sure the engine has good compression, make sure the fuel pump is producing enough flow.

Check the base gasket (under carb) for leaks.
